LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Trailer
Star Wars: The Force Awakens received the LEGO video game treatment when it was released, but for some reason The Last Jedi wasn’t given the same courtesy. Maybe it’s because they knew that this complete Skywalker saga version would allow them to revisit the new trilogy without needing to pad it out with extra missions and levels that didn’t come from the movie. After all, the LEGO Star Wars games have always had a full trilogy to play through, so that makes more sense.
Unlike previous LEGO Star Wars video games, this new collection for all nine of the movies will blend the LEGO piece style of the games with photorealistic environments, so not everything is made of LEGO pieces. You can see how that looks in some of the footage from each of the movies above, including a glimpse at some of The Last Jedi stuff we haven’t seen in a LEGO game before. There’s plenty of outstanding action sequence that should make for some exciting LEGO levels in the video game. How many pieces will explode when Admiral Holdo lightspeed jumps through that Star Destroyer?
There’s no specific release date set yet, but LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga arrives sometime in 2020.

It was a big weekend for Xbox at E3 2019, with plenty of news revealed Microsoft’s upcomingvideo gamelineup. Among the many other exciting reveals, Star Wars fans were treated to was the announcement that a new Lego Star Wars game would be released in 2020. Say hello to The Skywalker Saga
Lego is no stranger to creating tie-in games for movies and pop culture franchises. Past Lego games include Lego Marvel’s Avengers, Lego Harry Potter, and, aptly, a Lego Movie 2 game. Always kid-friendly and injected with the same kind of cheeky humor found in the Lego movies, Lego Gaming has staked out a corner in the gaming market where the average movie tie-in is far from rote.
With the news of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga still fresh in our minds, let’s take a look at what we can expect from this game including the release date, the E3 announcement trailer, and more.
When Will Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Be Released?
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will be released in 2020 but a specific date hasn’t been confirmed.
It is hard to pin down a pattern in the release dates for previous Lego video games tied to movies coming out in theaters and popular franchises. For example, the Lego Movie 2 Lego game was released on February 16, 2018, just one week after the movie hit theaters. Meanwhile, the Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens game was released on June 30, 2016, more than six months after The Force Awakens hit theaters.
Your guess is as good as ours when it comes to predicting an exact release date, but considering this is Star Wars, there will likely be a decent gap between the new movie and the Lego game adaptation.
Is There a Trailer For Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga?
There is indeed!
The official announcement trailer was released over the first weekend of June during Microsoft’s E3 2019 presententation. You can watch the announcement trailer for Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga below. The trailer is short, coming in at less than a minute, but it hits on the fact that multiple Star Wars films will be covered and teases some humorous interpretations of key dramatic moments from the films.
What Is the Plot of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga?
There is no official plot synopsis, per se, but we know that all nine films that make up the cinematic Star Wars Skywalker saga will be included in this game. That means that the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be adapted for the first time for a video game and that the stories of the previous Skywalker saga installments (Star Wars Episodes I - VII) will be featured. It’s unclear if an overarching narrative will help connect the stories from each film together or if players will be able to go from one film’s story to the next.
What Kind of Gameplay Can I Expect From Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga?
Players can expect the Lego brand to come through strong as players build certain parts of the world, weapons, transport, and so forth with Legos as they complete their missions. We should expect the story structure to be similar to past Lego games, especially Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens which saw the story broken up into chapters and each chapter comprised of various missions. Because the game will cover all nine Skywalker saga films, we should also expect plenty of chapters to be included in the game and the scope of the game itself to be very expansive and inclusive, pulling key plots points, settings, and characters from each movie.
What Is Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Rated?
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is still unrated but we expect this game, like past LEGO video games, will be given an E for Everyone rating. There will likely be some cartoonish violence but don’t expect anything too gory, over-the-top, or explicit to make its way into this game. Case in point: the announcement trailer recreates the memorable moment when Luke Skywalker loses his hand. In the video game version, Luke’s hand is a Lego piece that will pop off and he seems pretty chill about it.
Do I Need to Rewatch the Star Wars Movies to Play?
There’s no reason why you must watch the movies before you play Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. But, uh, why wouldn’t you use this as a chance to re-binge all of the movies and turn things into a really fun time?
Is It Funny?
The announcement trailer definitely hints at some tongue-in-cheek humor within the game (Kylo Ren building a Darth Vader snowman is a particular high point in this trailer) that will likely be peppered throughout. Not everything Star Wars-related needs to be serious and this game totally understands that.
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will be released on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Switch.
